This cover presents us the black and white picture of a sailor kissing a nurse on the street. It was after the war and the sailors went back home from battle. The sailor and the nurse were strangers. They kissed because they were both excited that the war was over.
I like this picture because it shows love and peace in it. War is a disaster to human beings. Those who returned alive from wars are heros. Nurses were in the battle to save soldiers' lifes. They were in the most dangerous position in the war. Once the war was over, they were the happiest people I think.
The photographer was close to the sailor and the nurse. It made the photo vivid to us. The dress, the pose and the audiences' faces...everything made this photo classic.

Wow! I really like how you came up with the symbolism of "war" and "peace" here. I've never actually thought of that before; usually I just think of it as being a romantic picture...a soldier returning from war and meeting his wife or girlfriend. I have also not considered that the two were strangers. I really like the thought you put into this one!
Shadow,
Awesome analysis! I love this picture, but I never realized that the woman was a nurse. It is obvious that the man is a sailor, but now that I look at the woman's clothing more carefully, I see that she is a nurse. Nurses and soldiers often go to war together. Wounded soldiers depend on nurses to ease their pain and heal their injuries. Therefore, their celebration of the new found peace together is even more symbolic than I had previously thought.
hi shadow,
I like your comment about this picture which is the most classic picture in my opinion. The two key words you mentioned are peace and war. It is good to mix the two topics in one picture. The sailor is excited about the end of war, and he could get rid of war. In addition, soldiers and nurses are two important roles in war. They belonged to two totally different parts, and they associated very closely. The colors in the photograph are white and black, so it presents perfectly vintage. Especially, in the background, every person in the street was seeing them with smile. What the warm circumstances it is!
I love this picture too. It really shows happiness and peace that was going around in this time in our country. It's great that someone was able to capture this moment in time.
War is disaster to human beings...I like that statement alot. Its brief but soo true. As you stated, this picture is showing the happiness between the sailor and his wife/girlfriend/or stranger after war. Its a very powerful image showing the magnitude of happiness as a result of them coming home. It shows how happy they are that the war is over.
