Week 13

For my final webtext, I need to do more research for it. Such as the color part, the point is weak and I need more evidence for it. I also want to find more pictures to illustrate my webtext vividly because some of the names were used a long time ago. My audience may not quite understand them. Pictures will help them learn it better. Language problem is another issue I need to concern for my final webtext. There are some grammar errors I need to fix and some sentences I need to revise.

My webtext fits our webzine because the topic I choose is entertaining. Although fashion has become more commercial, it is still very pleasant for our visual aims. I am sure my audience will enjoy my topic. Also, I did research for my topic, just like my other fellow students. We did the same process for our topics. That’s important because we will put our webtext together as a whole project.

week 12. Part 2.

1. The website “The history of 20th Century Fashion” tell us about a brief idea of how the clothing, hair, cosmetics and foot ware looked like. This text gave me an idea of the 20th century fashion industry and helped me begin my webtext. But there is not enough information for me to continue the text. What the author wrote on the website is not specific but in clear categories. So it still helped me to organize my text.

2. 2. The essay “Pants and the Feminist” written by Paula Baxter pointed out that feminism seemed to be out of fashion. I took this as a resource for my text because the author got a very different idea about fashion and feminism. It is somehow against my text. I think it could make my text more objective. However, I need more text to support my idea. Therefore, I just mentioned it a little in my webtext.

3. 3. The journal “Fashion is New Form of Expression for Feminists” is the opposite of “Pants and the Feminist”. It talked about how fashion was used by feminists to make political statement. It is a good support to my idea. It also talked about how fashion helped feminism in the history. It can be used in every category of my webtext.

4. I prefer to find my resources in the library because they are more reliable. But the resources are quite limited too. The internet has the resources from all over the world. It’s a lot easier to find a useful piece of information. I will try to find my resource in the library first and then look up on line.

Week 11

I have done a lot of research so far for my project. I learned from my research that feminists did a lot for women's equal rights. Fashion is one of the methods to express themselves. Feminists have been fighting for justice while some men also make efforts to feminist movements. In fashion area, there are many famous male designers. For instance, the inventor of pants for female was male. Male designers also promoted pants in female society. Fashion itself has a long history too. It dwells from one style to another. Fashion is not only clothing. It also includes hair, acessories and costometics. I want to show my audience images and illustrate them with my spoken words. I think that will be more impressive than written words because fashion is nothing without visual meterials. I'll organize my slideshow and put them into different categries. My spoken words will go with the images.

Week 10

My whole project is mainly about two aspects, feminism and fashion. In this case, my audience is those who are interested in either of the tow topics or both of them. My purpose of this project is letting my audience know that fashion is not just about appearence and clothes. Fashion is a way of expressing oneself. In my webtext, I connect feminism and fashion with my explaination of why fashion reflects feminism. In my podcast, I talked about men's attitudes towards feminism while in my slideshow, I will show my audience how fashion has changed. I divided my text and podcast into some main points and explained each point with examples. My project is well-suited to a web reader because it contains a lot of research. There are lots of links and pictures in the text to help the audience well understand my text. I also illustrate my content based on the web resources. So web-text is better than printed text.

I like my project because I think the topic is interesting and it is about different areas. I informed my audience a lot of useful history information. Besides, fashion industry has become more and more important in our modern life. It is necessary to know more about it. Also my project is about genders. This is still a popular topic all over the world.

I think I still need more research on my project in order to support my points. I will also re-organize my webtext so that it is easy for my readers to read. For my podcast, I also wish I could add more information about my main points because men's attitudes are indispensable as a part of feminist movement in the history and in the future. This topic still has a lot to said and I hope I can continue research it even after this semester.

In my topic, the fashion part would best be presented as images and spoken words of a slideshow. Fashion could not be shown without images. And since I will talk about the history, when the words go with images, it would be easier for audience to understand.

Week 9

The strategy of my script is to inform my audience men's responses to feminism and persuade them to get involved in feminist movements.

The first part of my script is the introduction, I explained what feminism was and what three kinds of men's responses to feminism. In the second part, I explained the three kinds of responses, positive, negative and laissez- faire. Then, I explained why men should get involved in feminism and how they can participate in feminist movements.

Basically, I used definitions and examples to support my idea and make my audience understand. I also found some resourses to support my idea as well.

Week 8

The differencs between spoken script and written essay is the tones and the languages.
When write an essay, the tone should be more formal and academic, because it will be printed out and read by others. Sometimes academic words need to be used so that the paper can look nicer and more convicible. For spoken script, the tone should be more oral. The language should be understandable by hearing it because the audience is random. they could be a native speaker or they can also be those who are not good at English.
The similarity is the tructure. no matter it is a spoken script or a written essay, they should both have thesis statements, body points and conclusions.

In my podcast, I will talk about men's attitudes towards feminism. my sourses list different attitudes provided by men. I will classify them into three main attitudes using paraphrasing, quoting and explaining. To get my audience engaged in my podcast, I will not only discribe my resources, but also mention what should women do and persuade men to get involved in feminist movements.

Week 7

Reflection blog:
I like my topic because it is about both the past and our current life. My audience is who shares the same interest with me. I like to discuss with people like this. I designed my webtext in accordance with my own taste. Some of my audiences think the page is too boring to fit my topic, fashion. Well, we have our own concept of fashion now. Fortunately, I am talking about the general fashion and its relationship with the history of feminism. Therefore the differences between our understandings of modern fashion will not affect the content of my webtext. My organization is a little confusing. I will make it better in my 1500 words draft. Besides, I do not think I have done enough research for my project, which I will develop in my next steps. I will quote and paraphrase more of other experts’ works because I think their words are more powerful and authoritative than mine. I will make my final work more reliable and convincing. However, the final purpose of my project is to inform my audience how fashion reflects feminism. As a result, my project will provide a lot of information about fashion and feminism, which requires a lot of research too. My resources so far have some negative points and some positive points as well as some neutral points. In my future research, there must be lots of information. I will carefully choose helpful ones that can improve my text. I will also correct my language problems. So far, I have my thesis, my whole structure, my main points and my conclusion. My text is going well following my plan. So I will keep working on it and my podcast as well. I hope my audience and my instructor can offer me more advices on it.

Podcast Respond:
The subject of this podcast is the e-books in colleges. The audience is people who concern about collage education. And the purpose of this podcast is to argue about whether e-books or physical books are more beneficial. The speaker build her ethos through the interviews on students and instructors and logos through the comparison of e-books and physical books. The pathos of this podcast is whether for or against e-books in college. The differences between the speakers are some of them considered this issue from economical points and some of them thought from the benefits for study. Their tone is casual because they are casual interviews.

Week 6

post-conference
basically, my project has no big problems, but some definitions need more explaination. Further more, I will add pictures to my webtext to illustrate my points.

Post-peer review
From the feedback Sara gave me, I can see she wants me to write more about today's fashion and how it reflects feminism. She also points out that one of my links cannot work so I should fix it before my next step. about the pictures, I think fashion is not all about colorful stuffs. For instance, Chanel use black and white mostly and it is classic. I believe simplicity can also be fashion. Also I will make my audience more clear. I really appreciate her feedback. It helps me improve my webtext.

I wanna discuss about...

1. What do you think I can develop my topic so that it can be more academic?
2. Which part should be more specific?
3. What can be added in order to make my essay more interesting?
(to be continued...)

my audience

I asume my audience to be those who are interested in the histories of feminism or fashion or both of them. Most of them should be women who are more liberal. Men who are curious about the revolution of women or fashion may also be my audience. So my audience could be quite random and global.
Since English has already become the most wildly used language in the world, it is well spreaded in most of the countries. For instance, most people in big cities can speak at least the basic English. Therefore, my audience will be able to read English as well. Besides, those who are interested in this topic must be educated. They may not be familiar with the topic. That is fine because my purpose of this paper is doing the research and informing them about the relationship between fashion and feminism.
My very first audience will be my instructor and my classmates who are quite familiar with my written work. they think my work is understandable. I hope they could give some advice on my language and content problems.

My purpose of this essay is to inform my audience the relationship between the development of fashion and the revolution of feminism. I plan to use examples to illustrate my topic in order to make my essay successful. my tone should be as objective as possible so that my essay can be convincing and authentic to my audience.

my two sources

my first source is
http://media.www.ndsmcobserver.com/media/storage/paper660/news/2008/02/27/News/Fashion.Is.New.Form.Of.Expression.For.Feminists-3237639.shtml
It is from a newspaper so it is authoritative. The news was issued by Feb. 2008 and the website was updated on 2009, so the sorce is quite current. the website has links to other news, so it is accurate. Although it is about personal opinion, I think it is helpful to my topic.

my sencond source is
http://drupal02.nypl.org/blogs/2008/07/31/pants-and-feminist
It is from the website of the New York Public Library, so it is quite reliable. the author of this post is formerly Curator of the Art & Architecture Collection and the
Curator of Exhibitions and Coordinator of Educational Initiatives at NYPL. It was posted on July 31, 2008, which is quite current. In the article, there are some links to more explination, so it is quite detailed. The author explained the relationship between pants and feminisim, there is no direct advertising and you can contact the author, so it is also objective.

my working thesis so far is fashion reflects feminisim mainly on three aspects, the color, the pattern and the accessory. Hopefully I can get the conclusion that the history of fashion in changing the color, the pattern and the accessory reflects feminisim. I will research on the history of the three aspects. and then compare with the history of feminisim.

Three Topics that I am interested in

There are three topics that I want to talk about this semester. They are feminism, fashion and culture. I found out that these three topics are closely connected. Feminisim can be reflected in what women wear. culture is another important factor that can influence fashion. As a girl who is interested in fashion, I would like to research on these three topics to see how feminism has influenced fashion in the past and how culture now inluences fashion in different countries. There are my questions for each topic:
Feminisim:
- How did feminisim begin?
- What aspects did feminisim influence?
- How is feminisim shown in modern life?
Fashion:
- What is the fashion trend this year?
- How was fashion changed compared to the fashion hundred years ago?
- How do people difine fashion?
Culture:
- What is the culture in the middle east like?
- How is American culture formed?
- How do different cultures influence each other?
